Dr. William T. Allaben, with over 30 years of experience in conducting and/or managing regulatory research and testing programs, is Associate Director for Scientific Coordination at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR) and the FDA’s Liaison to National Toxicology Program (NTP), and as such directs the FDA’s participation in the NTP. He is also Project Officer of an FDA-NIEHS Interagency Agreement with management and fiscal responsibility for a multi-million dollar/multi-task research and testing program. Dr. Allaben is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Toxicology and Pharmacology, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), Little Rock and a Fellow in the Academy of Toxicological Sciences. Dr. Allaben coordinates a Ph.D. level toxicology graduate program co-managed by NCTR and UAMS and lectures in a number of graduate level courses annually. He also coordinates scientific interactions between the FDA, NCTR and numerous federal agencies such as the EPA, NIEHS, NCI, NIOSH, and NCEH/ATSDR. Dr. Allaben was the major force responsible for establishing an interagency agency agreement (IAG) with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences that provides resources (funding) supporting comprehensive research and testing studies that assess the safety of FDA high profile chemicals and agents where human health and risk issue exists.. Under the umbrella of this IAG, Dr. Allaben established the first federally operated phototoxicology research and testing laboratory. This IAG has leveraged international scientific expertise and NIH funding in direct support of FDA research and testing needs. Dr Allaben has received numerous FDA scientific recognition, leadership and honor awards, including the Award of Merit, FDA’s highest honor award.
