Dr. James C. Lamb has extensive experience in toxicology, risk assessment, and scientific and regulatory policy. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences (ATS) and a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (ABT). Dr. Lamb served as a Director and as President of the ABT. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the ATS.
Dr. Lamb served on several National Academy of Sciences committees on risk assessment, endocrine disruption, and toxicology. He has served on various ILSI panels, including one that made substantial contributions in Agricultural Chemicals Safety Assessment, and still serves as an academic advisor to the ILSI Committee on Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology. He is the Past-President of the Society of Toxicology’s (SOT) Regulatory Safety Evaluation Specialty Section and sits on the SOT’s Congressional Task Force and TSCA Reauthorization Task Force. He has recently served on contract review committees for the National Institute of Mental Health and the NIEHS. He was an Associate Editor of the journal Environmental Health Perspectives.
Dr. Lamb has worked in various federal government positions. He was Head of the Fertility and Reproduction Group at the NIEHS/NTP, where he developed and evaluated new toxicology testing systems and tested substances for reproductive and developmental toxicity, general toxicity and carcinogenesis. In that position, he worked closely with colleagues at NCTR and NIOSH to improve the quality of research and testing in the NTP. Dr. Lamb then moved to the U.S. EPA as the Special Assistant to the Assistant Administrator for Pesticides and Toxic Substances.
For the last 20 years he has consulted on issues affecting pesticides, industrial chemicals, consumer products, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and food additives. He is presently Director of the Toxicology and Mechanistic Biology Center and a Principal Scientist at Exponent. His publications reflect his unique experience in endocrine disrupting chemicals, reproductive and developmental toxicants, carcinogens, and systemic toxicity. He has published over a hundred peer-reviewed publications and numerous abstracts and book chapters.
